Finding Employment that Works for Students with Asperger's Syndrome

 

Barbara Bissonnette, a professional associated with Forward Motion Coaching and author of The Complete Guide to Getting a Job for People with Asperger's Syndrome; Asperger's Syndrome Workplace Survival Guide and Helping Adults with Asperger's Syndrome Get & Stay Hired will present this workshop. 

 

Learning Objectives

·         Understand how individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome (Autism Spectrum Disorder) process information, the impact on employment, and the advantages of this processing style in the workplace

·         Learn to better guide individuals to manageable jobs or careers: why occupational decisions should not be based on interests; evaluating abilities; choosing the right work environment; understanding how Asperger’s impacts an individual and what this means for occupational choice

·         Gain strategies for working with individuals: establishing rapport; addressing unrealistic expectations, black-and-white thinking, etc.

·         Gain specific tips for vocational research, job search activities and preparing individuals for interviews

·         Learn common workplace accommodations that help individuals be successful

·         Discover how innovative employers are utilizing autistic strengths
